The UAB will invest an honorary doctorate to the musician Josep Pons Viladomat, musical director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu for nine years, at the request of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. The distinction is awarded “for his commitment to the music scene in Catalonia; for his contribution to the recovery and dissemination of the Hispanic musical heritage; for his support of contemporary composers and new generations of instrumentalists; for the creation of innovative and excellence projects; for his effort to open the musical fact to the new audiences of the 21st century ".
The investiture ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 7, at 12 noon in the UAB Auditorium, located at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts. Professor Francesc Cortès, godfather of the doctor honoris causa, will read the speech in which he will gloss over the merits of Josep Pons. The rector of the UAB, Javier Lafuente, will then present the diploma and award him the medal of doctor honoris causa. Next, Josep Pons will give a master class entitled “Who I am. How I am. What do I do.". Next, a fragment of the Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, directed by Josep Pons, will be screened, performing "El amor brujo", by Manuel de Falla. The event will end with the singing of the Gaudeamus Igitur. The event will have a restricted capacity due to the health situation but will be broadcast live and in full on the University's Youtube channel.
